Website loading speeds become Google’s ranking factor.
Search engine giant Google has stated that it is considering using a website’s loading time as the basis for its search algorithms, with slower web pages pushed further down the results list in favour of faster ones.
Google’s Matt Cutts stated in a recent interview that speed is already a factor in Adwords advertising searches, and that a lot of people inside Google favoured adding a speed factor into the way that the search engine ranks pages.
“We’re starting to think more and more about whether speed should be a factor in Google’s rankings” Cutts stated.
He went on to say “Historically, we haven’t used it in our search rankings, but a lot of people within Google think the web should be fast; it should be a good experience.”
"So it's fair to say if you are a fast site maybe you should get a little bit of a bonus and if you're a slow site then, you know, users don't want that as much."
This decision may encourage more webmasters to purchase dedicated servers or to spend money on hosts with high connectivity. But this development at Google has not been put into place to get companies to spend vast amounts on high speed connectivity and dedicated servers. Google is trying to encourage webmasters to focus on the quality of their pages – incorporating the best SEO techniques and coding practices to decrease loading times and increase the sites efficiency.
