Internet Marketing Experiences Major Growth

For a number of years internet marketing has seen a steady incline in the number of companies getting onboard to increase their online visibility. According to findings from a recent study conducted by US companies comScore and DunnhumbyUSA which looked into how successful web marketing is at attaining sales, internet based marketing techniques such as e-commerce websites, pay per click campaigns and banner ad’s proved to build and improve sales by over 9 percent on a 3 month campaign. Compared to an annual 8 percent increase by television marketing methods, this is a major improvement.

What potentially makes these figures significant for companies considering new advertising methods is the cost difference between internet marketing and television marketing.

"It is likely that the more precise targeting ability of the internet - especially in terms of accurately reaching the desired demographic segment - is a key reason for its effectiveness. That is meaningful in and of itself, but when you take into account the fact that online advertising is generally less costly than television, these results take on even greater significance." – Gian Fulgoni, executive chairman of comScore.

This new information may encourage companies to shift their marketing budget from traditional methods such as newspapers and television to advertising on the internet – something that is already happening at a quickening pace.
