Google Teams Up With US NSA
In a recent meeting, search engine giant Google has come to an information sharing agreement with the United States Government’s digital surveillance department of the National Security Agency (NSA).
A journalist for the Washington Post newspaper, reported that the deal, which is still waiting to be finalised, looks set to allow the National Security Agency to analyse Google’s data on the hack-attack that originated in China a couple of weeks ago.
Google later accused the Chinese government of coordinating the attacks in an attempt to eavesdrop on human rights activists after it announced that it would no longer cooperate with the country's strong search censorship policies.
Since Google disclosed the attacks, several other companies have come forward and admitted to being targeted in the attack, while China has since denied any involvement in the attacks.
Although both parties in the agreement refused to comment about the recent information sharing agreement, the Director of National Intelligence, Dennis C Blair called the recent attacks a “Wake Up Call” for Google and commented that the internet needs a "collaborative effort that incorporates both the U.S. private sector and our international partners."
