20% Of All Internet Ads Delivered Through Social Networking Sites
According to comScore the high reach, frequency and specific targeting abilities of display advertising on social networks is what is attracting marketing teams to this alternative and specialist medium.
80% of all these adverts viewed on social networks are split between the two networking giants, Myspace and Facebook, which each represent close to 10% of all display adverts delivered online.
comScore senior vice president Jeff Hackett was delivered a statement when the results where delivered emphasizing the significance of social media, he states that "Over the past few years, social networking has become one of the most popular online activities, accounting for a significant portion of the time Internet users spend online and the pages they consume.
"Social networking sites now account for one out of every five ads people view online. Because the top social media sites can deliver high reach and frequency against target segments at a low cost, it appears that some advertisers are eager to use social networking sites as a new advertising delivery vehicle."
The internet has long surpassed all other forms of advertising and marketing with people now spending more time online than watching television (as we reported last month in the study about internet marketing). Social networking is becoming increasingly accepted as part of peoples day to day life and more than half of the UK’s online population is signed up to facebook and spend on average 6-7hours per month on the networking site. Making advertising on these sites a viable option and companies should seriously consider incorporating these into their marketing budget.
